* PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE & SOMETIMES WE CHANGE OUR MINDS ,
& WE KNOW IT'S NEVER SIMPLE,
NEVER EASY
( NEVER A CLEAN BREAK, NO ONE HERE TO SAVE ME )

C L A S S E S HAD BEEN LET OUT for the day, but already it seemed that Alice Longbottom was at a loss for what to do. She'd run out of class as soon as it was over - history of magic for the fifth year Hufflepuffs, who would all unanimously agree that it was the most boring class they were required to take - and tossed most of her books in her dorm, where she already had a pile of homework waiting for the night, and she really should have gotten a start in it to make at least a decent sized dent in the stack. But the day had been long and her classes had been tiring, and she really did not want to do more work now. Besides, it was a lovely autumn day outside, and it just seemed reasonable to the small fifth year to go get a breath of fresh air. Maybe - and just maybe - then she would feel like finishing her work. Maybe.
There was still maybe an hour or so until the sun would set, and so little Alice found herself traipsing through the front door, and wandering out towards the lake. She didn't really have any particular idea as to what she wanted to do in mind, so lazing about the lake shore seemed reasonable enough. But then, a flash of movement and she turned just in time to see a body disappearing into the Forbidden Forest.
Alice gulped, looking toward the general direction in which the figure had gone. Students weren't allowed in there - everyone knew that - and Alice should have been enforcing that rule. But, the truth was that she was scared of going into the forest. She'd never been in there once before, and if it was an older student, which it probably was, they wouldn't take her seriously anyway. But, then again, if it was a younger student - they could be in some pretty serious danger. And Alice didn't want that hanging over her head, that someone got hurt when she could have saved them. Taking one last glance toward the castle, Alice pushed a dark curl behind her head and swallowed her fear, half-running toward the forest where the person had disappeared before she could change her mind.
It was still broad daylight, but through the thick treetops, very little light escaped, and it gave the forest an overall dark, creepy, nighttime feel. Alice moistened her lips with her tongue and called out softly, "H-hello...?" Her voice probably wasn't loud enough to be heard, but if it was, she wondered briefly exactly what was waiting in the deep forest, listening to her.
Suddenly, Alice stepped on a twig, and could do nothing to stop the unfortunate series of events that followed immediately after. The twig snapped, her resolve disappeared and she turned to leave immediately, but then a growth of leaves and other debris on the forest floor gave way and Alice found herself falling into the hole, emitting a small squeak as she did so. Blue eyes wide, the petite girl looked around her wildly, pushing futilely up with both arms. Shit. The hole was only about chest-deep, but she was stuck. "H-help?" she called out quietly, before realizing that if whoever was in the forest was still in there, they were probably long gone and wouldn't hear her cries. But then the sound of footfall came from somewhere in front of her, and Alice looked up hopefully, if not a bit fearfully. It was either someone who would help her, someone who would mock her and leave her there, or something that would probably just want to eat her. "H-h-hello?" she squeaked quietly, hoping that this person might be her savior. She personally really hated the idea of having to wait around to be saved - she could take perfectly good care of herself, dammit! - but what other choice did she have in the situation?
